Testimonials
Beautiful and well-maintained campground. We stayed by the creek with our friends. The campground was peaceful and everyone seemed to observe quiet hours after 10pm. The vault toilets were clean. Drinking water on site. Beautiful hike to a waterfall nearby. It's much faster to access the site from the south (closer to rt 15) as opposed to driving from the north one hour through the mountains.
This is our home away from home. Beautiful scenery and absolutely AMAZING hosts. Deb and Del are always so happy to welcome us and our kiddos back each year. There’s a really fun fairy garden that my kids look forward to every year!
We took the entire day to drive though the canyon as well as stop at the pull-offs and take pictures and take in the spectacular scenery. There are many hikes along the way- some long, some short as well as a variety of difficulties. Take your own food and lots of water as there are not many places to eat. The altitude is around7-8 thousand feet so be prepared. Its cool when it is very hot in Salt Lake City. We drove from Salt Lake City through the Canyon to Midway then to Provo and back to SLC which was a terrific day.
About Utah Recreation
Utah Recreation was established on September 8, 2018, when it was awarded the concessionaire contract for managing recreational facilities in Utah’s National Forests. With a deep commitment to providing exceptional service, we proudly took over operations on January 1, 2019. While Utah Recreation is a newer company, we are backed by the expertise of our parent company, Vista Recreation, which has been delivering outstanding guest experiences in the great outdoors for over 40 years.
Our story is rooted in the unique landscapes of the Uinta-Wasatch-Cache National Forest, a place steeped in natural beauty and rich history. The forest covers over 2 million acres, featuring a diverse range of ecosystems and recreation opportunities. It’s an honor to manage 135 campgrounds, day-use areas, boat launches, and trailheads across its seven Ranger Districts.
The forest’s name reflects its history and cultural significance:
- Cache National Forest (est. 1908): Named after the French word for "hiding place," referring to fur trappers' caches, it spans 701,435 acres across Utah and Idaho.
- Wasatch National Forest (est. 1906): Derived from the Ute word meaning “low place in high mountains,” it stretches over 905,724 acres across northern Utah.
- Uinta National Forest (est. 1897): Named after the Ute word "Yoou-We-Teuh," meaning “pine forest,” this area covers 880,719 acres in central Utah.
In 2007, these forests were unified, creating the expansive Uinta-Wasatch-Cache National Forest we know today. Each area contributes its unique character, offering an incredible array of landscapes, from rugged peaks to lush valleys.
At Utah Recreation, we are proud to steward this remarkable forest, ensuring visitors can safely enjoy its wonders while preserving its legacy for generations to come.
